We want to build homes to suit the needs of local people and local communities. We know many are on low incomes and want to buy a home.
Below are some examples of how we help people find and buy a home.
Although we sometimes provide properties for sale on the open market, our main purpose as a developer is to build and sell quality homes to those who cannot afford to buy a home on the open market and priority is given to those who are giving up a council or housing association tenancy and to key workers who meet the Government's eligibility rules.
You may part buy a share in a home from 25% up to 75% initially, and pay a subsidised rent on the part you don't own. You may, if you wish, buy further shares until you eventually own outright.
We’ve run four community self build schemes, where people work together to build their own homes. In 2009, seven people, including Charlotte and Veronica (pictured), received a 25% stake in their new homes in return for their efforts.
Family Mosaic was one of the first housing providers to provide a rent to homebuy initiative. Designed for people who cant afford to buy a low-cost home, homeowners pay a reduced rent on their new home to save cash for a deposit to buy a share of it later.
In 2010, we were highly commended by First Time Buyer magazine (Reader's Choice) for this.
Family Mosaic participates in the Government-funded Social HomeBuy Scheme.
The scheme allows social housing tenants to buy their current home either outright or on shared ownership terms with the benefit of a discount.
