The Resident Training Programme works closely with the pathways2work team to run a range of courses all with the general aim of helping residents get into employment.

All the courses we run are very resident focused, and are a far cry from the ‘chalk and talk’ days at school. Everyone is put at ease and we use a variety of training methods so you will never be bored.

There are three different types of course that we put on, they are aimed at:

  • soft skills
  • specific careers
  • recognised qualifications, through accredited courses

Being unemployed can really knock your confidence so our soft skills courses aim to help build this back up. We run session such as managing stress, having a positing mental attitude, building confidence for life, presentation skills.

Career-specific courses

Our career specific courses look at what it would be like to work in a particular role – for example we currently run Introduction to Youth Work, Working with Vulnerable Adults, Introduction to Administration.

These day-long sessions will give you an insight into what it would be like to work in that field and will give you signposting information on where to go next if you would like to make it your career. If you are unemployed you can also work with one of our Employment Liaison Officers in the pathways2work team.

Accredited courses

We know that getting some accredited courses under your belt can help improve your CV and boost your confidence and show future employers what you are capable of. We frequently run accredited courses such as Emergency First Aid, VRQ Customer Services, Health and Safety in the Workplace and Food Safety in Catering.
