The Big Lunch

03 Aug 2009
Over 300 join The Big Lunch community picnic in Laindon, Basildon.

Over 300 people attended a community picnic recently, organised by a partnership of organisations including Family Mosaic, Sure Start and several other local housing associations.

The Big Lunch, the community initiative setup by the Eden Project, asking communities to stop what they are doing and sit down to lunch together, came to Laindon on July 19th. The idea was for community picnics and street parties to take place across the country all on the same day, bringing families and communities together.

Although the weather was typically British and threatened to turn the day into The Big Drench, it didn’t damper peoples' spirits and enthusiasm. The event included a community buffet, farmers market, hog roast, childrens' craft activities, bouncy castle, live music, dancing and traction engine rides. The day was a success in Essex and across the country.
