05 Mar 2008 Launch of Intercultural Food Day Project in Islington
Healthy cooking was the name of the day at the launch of our Intercultural Food Day Project in Islington recently. The Turkish and Kurdish womens' group cooked up a storm with the support of Community Kitchens, a project which aims to promote healthy eating.
They made British and Turkish dishes including cottage pie and dolma (stuffed vine leaves). The session also involved a presentation on healthy eating, cooking healthy food on a budget and weight management for families.
Gul Kocak, chair of the group told connections “the ladies enjoyed the session, received useful information and were able to cook and share food over friendly discussions.” Reg Amoah, Family Mosaic’s Community Regeration Coordinator enlisted the help of Community Kitchens to run food sessions with community groups all over Islington as part of the BIG Lottery funded project “The Wellbeing Programme”. The lottery bid for £4,000,000 came through Family Mosaic working in partnership with other Housing Associations including Peabody Housing Trust who took a lead in the bid.
