Hackney sheltered scheme gets garden makeover

13 Aug 2010
Residents take advantage of Maisie Sheed funding

Residents at our Sheltered Housing Scheme in Southwold Road, Hackney, now enjoy their much improved communal garden, thanks to some hard work from residents and funding from the Maisie Sheed trust.

2 residents of the scheme worked with a professional gardener to clear the garden area before planting flowers and vegetables.  There was also money left over from their Maisie Sheed grant, Family Mosaic's fund for community investment initiatives, to buy new garden furniture.

This transformation has resulted in more residents using the communal garden and plans are being made for further improvement.

The Arcola Substance Misuse Group, which was funded by the Maisie Sheed Trust, has formed a successful working relationship with substance abuse organisation, LifeLine, to provide harm minimization, relapse management, health & nutrition, ETE and advice & counselling for drug-dependent clients.

Elizabeth Andrews, Substance Misuse Worker based at Arcola Street, has very received positive feedback from clients and professionals working in this field and hopes to provide this service to other clients.
