Family Mosaic enhances web accessibility

26 Jun 2008
Browsealoud enabled on Family Mosaic website to enhance 'accessibility'

Family Mosaic has enabled Browsealoud on its website to enhance its content and make it more accessible to users with literacy and visual impairments.

Browsealoud reads out loud webpages, making it easier for those who experience difficulties in reading online content.

7 million people in the UK have literacy problems, 3.5 million people with dyslexia and 8.6 million registered disabled people. While Browsealoud is NOT designed to replace traditional screen readers, by downloading for FREE a simple application on to a PC or Mac, users of the Family Mosaic website can benefit from the following:

  • Text will be read out loud to users as they hover their curser over or highlight text
  • The text will be highlighted as it is read out, allowing the user to recognise which part of the page is read out, which word is being read and how much of the page remains to be read
  • Features 'auto continue' to enable users to listen to the entire website text
  • Pronunciation help
  • Reads webpages, accessible Flash, PDF and Word documents, image descriptions
  • Users can regionally customise the voice
  • Converts text to MP3 format, enabling the user to download and listen without having to be in front of a computer
To download browsealoud for free, or for more information about the benefits available, please visit the Browsealoud website www.browsealoud.com
