Floating Support referrals

Floating support is a short-term service that provides support to vulnerable people, regardless of their tenure, who may be experiencing problems with maintaining their accommodation or have health or other issues which affect their ability to cope with day-to-day living.

Our aim is to enable people to live independently in the community and assist those in need of a home to look at their housing options. We also provide assistance for those with tenancies or owner-occupiers. We can work with you for up to two years or until you no longer need the support. Our aim is to gradually reduce our support as your situation improves, and you can lead a more independent life

Find out more about the who we support, how to contact us and the referral procedure.

Who we support

The service has “open access” approach, which means anybody who has a connection to Southend and has a housing support need can apply. We take direct referrals, referrals from family or friends and referrals from statutory, community and voluntary services. We operate a priority based waiting list to manage demand at peak times.

We are committed to meeting the housing support needs of a wide spectrum of people across the local communities we work in and this includes people with more complex and challenging support needs. To support this, we are committed to providing a priority response to those people who find themselves in a housing crisis. If you are applying for support either for yourself or on behalf of someone else and either you or they are in crisis, please make that clear on your application form so we can respond accordingly.
