24 Jul 2011 'Effectiveness' and 'commitment' helps secure funding
Old Oak Community & Children’s Centre has been successfully selected to be one of six Children’s Centres within Hammersmith and Fulham to have Hub Status with funding of 600k secured for a further two years.
The borough originally had 19 children’s centres and a spending review following cuts from central Government meant this was reduced to six Hub centres with other centres having their funding and programmes reduced.
Old Oak demonstrated its effectiveness to deliver and extend our programme of Sure Start activities to reach the majority of families within our agreed catchment area and it was the demonstration of the commitment of the staff and ability to deliver that saw our funding increased.
Jackie Feeney, manager of Old Oak centre said, “This is fantastic news for families within the local community and for the centre as a whole. It enables us to extend our programme and reach out to more families within our catchment area and make the centre a valuable resource for the local community.”
The centre provides a number of services for under 5’s and will be further developing them and continuing to successfully deliver others such as stay and play, healthy eating programme, activities for children in preparation for school, sensory room, health visitor drop ins, speech and language support, community midwifery, baby massage, ESOL (English as a second language), IT training, parenting classes and much more.
